The Clouds Are Parting?

November 11, 2010 9:51 am

With back to back wins agains two solid NFL teams, Colt McCoy seems to be adapting to the offense and the NFL quite nivcely.

Our offensive line is definately on of the top 5 in the NFL and with P.Hillis running as well as he has, the 'ground & pound" style that they've instituted is starting to work, quite efectively to say the least.

I would like to see that"wildcat formation" used a little more making Joshua Cribbs avbilites more effective each game, I think he needs get AT LEAST 12 touches being it direct snaps, short dumps into the flats and draws, he need the ability to create his own space.

Our down field passing game is th only thing that is preventing us from being a complete, balanced playoff team.

I think this off seasons draft should focus the #1 pick on a gamebreaking reciever.

Satisfied, BUT!

April 26, 2010 12:47 am

I was satisfied with the Browns draft overall.  However.
After Eric Berry was off of the board, I thought that we could have traded
down a few picks and still got either Haden, or Earl Thomas.
The Browns probably tried to do that and didn't get any takers.
When  Ward's name was announced for their Round #2 Pick,
I said "WHO".  I started searching through three of my best 100
college player lists and his name was no where to be found.
Apparently he has been a good player and an intimidating hard hitter.
But, he also has a history of injuries.  I believe that he could be a good
player for the Browns (If he stays healthy), but he probably would
have been there with one of our 3rd round picks.  I was a little
relieved that we didn't go after a QB just yet anyhow.  Then, when I heard
that the Browns had traded back into the 2nd round, I assumed that it
was to pick Colt McCoy, but to my surprise they picked RB Hardesty.
I really like him, but I also believed that he too would probably be
there in the 3rd round.  I was a little surprised that the Browns wanted him
enough to move up in the 2nd round to get him, especially since
it cost them their 1st of 3 3rd round picks, and 2   5th round picks.
At that point I believed that our chances of every getting QB Colt McCoy
were almost impossible.  But, surprisingly we lucked out and he was
still there for us in the 3rd round.  That pick satisfied my frustrations
over the previous two picks.   I wasn't sold on the safety Mayes, and I
was also iffy on QB Clausen.   I was hoping that the Browns would get
either WR Taylor Price from Ohio, or Carlton Mitchell in the later rounds,
and they in fact got Mitchell, who I liked best anyhow.  I believe that he
could be a real steal.  I also like the Guard they grabbed in Round 3 as well.
The DE they got with there last pick is an interesting pick.  With his size and
everything, including his family history (2nd generation NFL Player) I am
surprised that someone didn't grab him earlier.   Could he become the next
John Randle ????.   I hated to see a few of the players I liked real well
going to the likes of the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals.  I believe that
all four of the teams in the NFL North got even stronger, so the Browns
will still be fighting to stay out of the basement of this division in 2010.
I still don't believe that we have all of the pieces in place, but few teams
have EVERTHING, but I believe the Browns will be stronger this year
on both sides of the ball.    "GO BROWNS"

Draft Thoughts

April 23, 2010 12:35 am
Edited on: April 23, 2010 12:37 am

THANK GOD we didn't trade up for Bradford. He has great upside, but that shoulder is a major concern. The biggest drawback was the amount we would have given up to get him at #1. When I heard that Holmgren was on the phone with the Rams front office 5 minutes before the draft, my heart sank. The projection was that it would take at least half of our picks this year(including our 2nd and the three 3rds) as well as 2nd/3rd ish picks next year. When the rams picked Bradford I cheered, but not for the Rams or for Bradford. I cheered because that meant we weren't betting our farm(and half of next year's farm) on a kid who needs to learn how to properly take a hit.

I think Haden is a solid pick at #7, but I do think we could have traded down and still got Haden. I would have loved to see Earl Thomas here too, although we could have probably traded down for him also. I am left to wonder if it was Holmgren calling the shots and if Mangini would have traded down if he had the say-so to do it like last year. Trade down a few spots, pick up a 3rd or 4th and still get either Thomas or Haden. Its just my opinion, but I think trading down would have been the better move.

As for tomorrow and the 2nd/3rd rounds, I think we need to get a QB tomorrow. The only move I like for a 2nd round QB is if we can get Mccoy and not have to trade up for him. Otherwise, for #38 I would like to see possibly Golden Tate, Taylor Mays(might be a reach, but need a safety since we didn't get Berry or Thomas), Sergio Kindle or Brian Price. For the early 3rd round picks we could go for a DT/DE or an ILB/OLB. For our last 3rd rounder we could go for Lefevour(assuming we didn't get McCoy in the 2nd).

I'll just make a possible scenario from what is still left on the board at this point. How bout the first three rounds looking like this:

1st(6): Joe Haden
2nd(38): Sergio Kindle
3rd(71): Brandon Spikes
3rd(85): Reshad Jones
3rd(92): Dan Lefevour

Substitute Brian Price for Sergio Kindle and/or Carlos Dunlap for Brandon Spikes. Either way, there is a good combination of Linebackers/D-Line still on the board. We definitely need a safety and QB(as long as we dont reach for one) in the later picks.

I would also like to see Toby Gerhart in a Browns uniform too, but with the way the draft has gone so far, there is no telling where he would get picked. Gotta get some love for Whitey, Gerhart is a bruiser and would be a great compliment to Harrison. My guess is he'll go mid-3rd round.

So many scenarios and combinations, I LOVE that they made the 2nd/3rd rounds on day 2. Please share your thoughts on where the Browns stand going into Day 2.
